October 10th, 2017 is World Mental Health Day
Here at Lil Helper, mental health is a subject we hold close to our hearts. A few of our team members have struggled with Postpartum Depression or Anxiety and we have had many conversations with customers (AKA Lil Helper family members) who struggle with their mental health.
The World Health Organisation estimates that “worldwide about 10% of pregnant women and 13% of women who have just given birth experience a mental disorder, primarily depression”. If you went to prenatal classes, are part of a Mom group, etc… Chances are that 1 in 10 of those Mothers experienced a postpartum mental disorder. To make matters worse, many mothers all over the world feel pressure to “get back to normal” while dealing with their mental disorders. Many struggle in silence.
Today, we ask that you simply check in. Check in with yourself, your friends and family, check in with any new parents you know and even parents of older children. A simple, “Hey, how are you?” might make the world of a difference to someone who is suffering.
