Hey Y’all, it’s Erin!
I love cloth diapering and Lil Helper. I’ve been thinking about ways to use cloth diapers after potty training.
This post is going to give some suggestions.
If you had to give up cloth diapering sooner than you hoped, this post is also for you!
Your Lil Helper Inserts can be used for more than just catching your baby’s pee and poo.
You could use your inserts for cleaning!
They’re perfect for dusting, wiping up spills or as a general wash rag.
I would caution you to be careful about the types of products you use alongside your inserts if you’re hoping to reuse the inserts in diapers one day.
Oil-based cleaning products could damage the inserts, whereas dish soap would be a good option!
The same way that certain diaper creams could impact absorbance, this would likely also be true for certain cleaning products.
Your inserts are super absorbent.
In fact, they’re kinda like sponges.
You could use them at bath time as a cleaning rag, but it could also become a bath toy!
These would go great in a water table as well.
Practical Life Play
Another one of the ways to use cloth diapers after potty training is to turn it into a practical life toy.
There are a couple of ways that you can do this.
An easy one would be to use the diapers on dolls or stuffed animals.
Playing with the snaps is a great fine motor activity and also helps support imaginative play for your child.
Cloth diapers could be used to set up a laundry dramatic play area. You could make this as simple or elaborate as you’d like.
Additionally, try turning boxes into pretend washer and dryers. Make a clothesline or drying rack for children to hang diapers on.
You could go old school with a tub and scrubbing board.
Seriously, the possibilities are endless!
Mama Cloth or Cloth Toilet Paper
A transitional way to use cloth diapers after potty training is to use your inserts as a Mama Cloth Pad.
Your cloth wipes or inserts could also be used as toilet paper. You’ve spent all this time doing cloth laundry, and could just make this work as an eco-friendly family toilet paper option.
Set up is as easy as a basket with your inserts next to the toilet. Have a wetbag next to it and you’re good to go!
Snow Clean Up
Your inserts can be put to good use during the cold season!
Lil Helper’s awesome snap system could make a “mitten” of sorts.
You could put them over your gloves (or even without!) and wipe snow off your car.
Try keeping the inserts in your car or entrance to your house. Use the inserts to soak up extra water tracked into the house or car.
Who would have thought this would be one of the ways to use cloth diapers after potty training?
Continue Using Your Wetbags
Just like the cloth wipes could be used for more than just cloth diapering, so can your wetbags!
These are great for carrying home wet clothes/items. It could range from a potty “accident” to wet swimsuits or clothes wet from the snow.
Smaller wetbags could also make a great lunch bag.
Really, there are countless options for how you could continue to use your bags!
The last of the ways to use cloth diapers after potty training is to do good with them.
You could pass them on to a local diaper lending group, or simply to another family interested in cloth diapering.
Another way to donate your diapers is to a local school where they do the take-home babies. This would be a great way to help expose students to cloth diapers and help make them more mainstream.
If you’re not able to afford the investment loss on your diapers, don’t forget about our LilHelper B/S/T Group!
These were the 7 ways to use cloth diapers after potty training that I came up with!
