7 At Home Date Ideas
Hey y’all! It’s Erin.
This is my one year anniversary post as a member of the Lil Helper Creative Content Team.
Last year, for my very first post, I talked about self care for parents.
I thought it would be fun this year to talk about some relationship care. When we’re so focused on taking care of our children, doing cloth diaper laundry, cleaning the house, earning money, and all the millions of other things on our list… our relationships can take a back seat.
Getting a babysitter can be nearly impossible whether it’s scheduling or cost. I mean, dates themselves can be out of many families’ budgets.
So what’s the solution?
I’m going to offer 7 fun at home date ideas that you can plan for after your kiddos go to bed at night or at naptime!
Let’s start with a classic. You can make this as close to the cinema as you want it to be.
Pop some popcorn. Get your favorite theatre snacks. Pick the movie and snuggle up!
You can watch your movie in the living room or in bed.
If you want to make it little more romantic, light some candles!
DIY Restaurant Experience
Moving right along to another go to option; dinner!
If you don’t want to have a ton of dishes to clean, order your food from a meal delivery service that’s made at your favorite restaurant.
Set the table with fresh flowers and soft lighting.
Share a bottle of wine.
Do whatever will make it a special meal that’s just for the two of you.
If you don’t want to wait until the kids are in bed for the evening, try having a backyard picnic during nap time.
Get your favorite blanket and pack up your favorite snacks.
This at home date idea could absolutely be done in the evening as well! String up some white christmas lights in a tree and lay a blanket down underneath.
Light a fire in a fire pit and snuggle up with your sweetie.
For the super night owl couples, take that picnic blanket and lay it out under the stars.
You could work together to find and identify constellations.
Pay attention to when there are cool sky events, such as a blood moon, super moon, shooting stars, or a planet orbiting closer to earth.
Nothing could be more romantic than some time alone underneath the moon and stars!
Espresso your love
You could make your own coffee date at home during nap time.
Pick out some fancy coffee grounds and your favorite creamer.
Pair it with a fancy dessert that you’ve snagged on the drive home.
Drink your coffee and share your sweet treats on your patio.
Everything doesn’t have to be a romantic experience for you to connect.
Sometimes, just being able to have fun together is just the reboot that your relationship occasionally needs.
You could set up any type of game competition that you want.
Cards, video games, board games, whatever!
This could also be a fun time to make it a “double date,” and invite your friends over!
Treat yo selves
Seriously. Treat each other to a relaxing spa experience.
There’s some great videos that demonstrate how couples can give each other massages.
Check this one out to see some simple tips on how to massage your partner.
You could set up foot soaks, make your own masks, or have a bubble bath.
Get some essential oils and candles, and just take an opportunity to relax together.
These are just a few of the ideas that I came up with how to save yourself the stress and money of dates away from the house.
