Hey Y’all, it’s Erin.
So much of our focus as parents is on caring for our children. Self care for parents is just as important.
If we don’t take time to “refill our cups,” it can lead to burn-out. Our stresses can consume us.
I’m not sure about you, but when I’m stressed then I get irritable. When I’m irritable, I don’t have patience. Our little ones require lots of love, attention, and patience. So, taking some time to take care of ourselves is a vital part of caring for our littles.
This post is going to offer 5 strategies on self care for parents. Maybe you’re reading this as a parent who needs to implement these strategies. Perhaps you’re the loved one to a parent looking for ways to help them take some “me time.” Either way, this post is for you!
I can’t believe how much more quickly time passes as a parent. It’s crazy that Mother’s Day is less than a week away!
I swear it was just yesterday my oldest was born but she’s almost eight, so I know my perception of time is warped. Days blur together in the best way where I can only remember all the sweet moments. The moments where my girls will come up to me out of the blue and tell me they love me. Conveniently, I don’t remember the time that they flooded their bedroom with soap and water when I asked them to clean it. Oh wait, I do remember, but I look back on it and laugh.
There are some days where I am so eager for bedtime. Days that I’m fixated on the clock to see if I can finally get a break. Parenting is HARD!
In August 2016, the Summer Olympic Games were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In between diaper changes and Peppa Pig marathons, we managed to watch snippets of the games. At the end of the day, we climbed into bed and dreamt of hurdles made out of cribs, canoeing in a bathtub full of rubber ducky’s and mountain biking over a pile of laundry. Which got us thinking… if the Parenting Olympics existed, what would they look like?
So, of course, we had a contest!
The question – “If the Parenting Olympics existed, in which event would you win gold?”!
The prize – a gold Lil Helper Charcoal Diaper (well, we actually call it Mango) and by random draw, the prize went to Fleur Fouchard in Saskatchewan, Canada!
We got so many incredible answers; we had to share them on our blog. Here are some of the best entries we received in our “Parenting Olympics Contest”
A customer shared a post from this satiric site with me yesterday on our Lil Helper FB group. It caught her eye because it sure looked like a Lil Helper cloth diaper to her (and a few others agreed) and hey, guess what? When I looked at the image and checked the filename, it WAS a photo of one of our dipes, likely taken from our site who-knows-when (we don’t sell this particular diaper any more but we do sell a whole bunch of other lovely things that are NOT $750).
Our only sorrow is that our diapers DO NOT really have emu thread in them …. any more.
I fought for it, really, I did.
And the feathers in the inserts? Not goose. Flamingo. Anyone who’s anyone knows flamingo down is the go-to for cloth dipes.
Thanks for the laugh, GunkLife.
The $750 cloth diaper your baby needs, apparently.
